Wastewater and Reuse

According to the reports from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India is estimated to generate around 111,972 MLD of wastewater. Of this, urban India generates an estimated 72,368 MLD of wastewater. Yet, less than 30% of this is treated, leading to pollution of lakes, rivers and groundwater.

Untreated wastewater poses serious health and ecological risks. However, when effectively treated, wastewater becomes a valuable resource. It is suitable for non-potable reuse in landscaping and construction, and even in agriculture.
