Wipro Foundation supports sustainable urban water management in Indian cities, specifically focusing on Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The primary focus is on challenges related to urban water management. These include overuse of groundwater, contamination of surface water, and the neglect of natural water resources.
Over the years, Wipro Foundation has made considerable efforts in addressing these challenges through initiatives such as groundwater mapping, recharge wells, lake restoration, and community engagement. We have been collaborating with stakeholders to achieve sustainable water management in cities across the country.
The Urban Waters Deep Dive Report captures our work, undertaken in collaboration with partner CSOs, on integrated urban water management and capacity building. This document aims to provide a summary update of our sustainable water management initiatives till date. To learn more about our work on water in Bengaluru, and other Indian cities, click here.
Bengaluru’s Water Crisis: Act Now!
Bengaluru depends on the river Cauvery as its main source of water; however, a large portion of the demand is still met by the city’s ground water sources especially in the peripheral areas. A weak monsoon in the year 2023 has meant that the ground water table has depleted to a point where the city is now facing a water crisis. While the government is putting in various measures, communities and individuals can also take action to conserve water in their premises. Here are some resources which can help one understand these mechanism and take proactive steps for conserving water.
